Hi. I’m Dale Darling. In 1979 my wife, Shan, and I moved from Ohio to Colorado and I started two things: working on a DMA in Music Composition at CU Boulder, and tying flies. Within a few years we also started our family, and by the time our third, and final, daughter was born (1989) I’d earned the doctorate and tied about 300,000 flies. I’d also presented fly tying clinics to hundreds of people, taught fly fishing classes for local fly shops and made presentations at many TU and other service organizations. Okay, I composed a lot of music during that time, as well.
From 1991 through 2006 I was owned by up to three fly shops, and tied lots of flies while teaching many thousands of people to tie, fish, build rods, cast and thrive in life, the ultimate goal in all of it.
On A Site For Sore Flies, I’m going to continue to pass on the art of fly tying by offering a variety of fly tying - and fly fishing - instructional products. Along the way, I hope each of us learns more about bugs, flies, fish, tying skills and so on. Oh yeah, and about thriving in life. After all, time’s fun when you’re having flies.

Here’s a little bit about my fly tying history. I hope to learn about you along the way, as well.
