Boulder Creek

River: Boulder Creek; begins in mountains west of Nederland, flows into Barker Reservoir, then through Boulder Canyon, the town of Boulder and eventually joins the S. Platte east of Boulder in the plains; South Boulder Creek flows through Gross Reservoir, then through El Dorado Canyon to join Boulder Creek east of Boulder.

Fish: The upper stretches hold brook and cutthroat trout, while the canyon reaches primarily have brown and rainbow. Fish are on the small size, but some decent fish will be found in the canyon!

Bugs: caddis, golden stones, mayflies – including PMD, BWO, - and some midges.

Flies: standard attractor dries, including Royal Wulff, humpy, irresistible; pheasant tail, bead head hare’s ear/prince nymphs.

Techniques: plenty of pocket picking; small brushy stream above Nederland and on certain stretches of S. Boulder Creek;

Seasons: similar to other canyon creeks; low flows during winter in canyons cause freezing conditions from sometime in November until March or so.

Rating: a good small stream for beginners; good access for Boulder, Lafayette, Louisville and Westminster folks for short jaunts to the stream.
