Fly Fishing Classes

"How do I get started?"

This is a question that we often hear. Fly fishing is fun, but it can be a bit daunting at the beginning; there just seems to be so much information and so much to learn. Over the years, we've developed a curriculum that works.

We encourage folks to take the following classes: This is an investment of 3- half days and a full day, and between $225-$325. At the conclusion of this program, you will feel sufficiently confident to go to local trout streams prepared to catch fish. Introduction to Fly Casting will teach you to control the fly line; the 1st Adventure (read below) will teach you to read water as well as how to approach and use basic techniques, and a Guided Trip will bring everything together by offering a full day of private instruction with one of our friendly, helpful guides.

We offer one of the finest fly fishing classes available.

1st Adventures in Fly Fishing.

This delightful class is the result of over 20 years of development and teaching experience.

Here's how it works!

On Sunday morning - other times are also available - we'll meet at 8AM. The session will last for about two hours. During this time, you will receive our informative syllabus as well as several other handouts and publications. The classroom session will cover such things as knots, understanding trout and their environs, water types, insects and the flies we use to imitate them, fishing through hatches, the difference between and how to fish nymphs, dry flies, dry and dropper rigs, streamer techniques and more. (We'll also spend a little time going over the basic gear, but we'd prefer to do that with you on an individual basis.) At the conclusion of the class, you'll have the opportunity to purchase the gear you'll need for the fishing session, if that is best for you.

Then we spend about an hour reviewing and working on fly casting. After a break for lunch, we head to the river for the fishing portion of the class. All of the info we cover in the classroom will be practiced on the water. You'll learn to rig and fish with nymphs, dries, a dry and dropper and a streamer. The water session is meant to introduce techniques so you can fish on your own. While fish are usually caught and released, the point of the class is instruction.

The river portion of the class will last between 4 and 5 hours and will be packed with enjoyable information that will help you develop the skills needed to catch trout in rivers on flies.

There will never be more than 3 students per instructor during the on-water portion of the class.

Class begins at 8AM with classroom work, and usually ends at 5PM. Significant time spent is spent on the water! Tuition is $165.00 per person, and includes use of all gear - waders, boots, rod, reel and fly line as required, instruction, our award winning syllabus and a promise for a great day of fun and learning.
