St. Vrain Angler News & Muse February 6, 2006!

Hit Counter

Greetings!

I hope this finds you well. It's been three weeks since the last missive and they have been busy weeks. Closing the shop, being very sick, moving product from the shop to the house, hauling trash and so on and so forth. Perhaps you know.

Emotions have been mixed. The notes I've received and read - and responded to - have been encouraging, full of feeling and are much appreciated.

Thanks!

Today's missive is going to be short. I'm going to let you know a few things that I will be doing and leave it at that. The reason is that I still have lots of work to do to get things ready for the web site, classes and so on. I'll write again in a week or two and will keep you informed as offerings become available.

Thanks again for all the support and encouragement each of you have offered. My family and I really do appreciate all of them!

Schedule

Saturday, February 11, 2006: I'll be tying flies for the West Denver Trout Unlimited Fly Tying Meeting from 8:30am until about 3 or so in the afternoon.

This is loads of fun; there will be lots of fly tiers demonstrating various patterns and techniques. I think this will be the 20th year - perhaps more - that I've done this. They meet at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds building on West 6th Avenue, just west of Simms. There is an admission charge and it is worth the dough.

I hope to see many of you this Saturday!

Thursday, February 16, 2006: St. Vrain Anglers Trout Unlimited Meeting. I'll be making the presentation on Fly Fishing in Saltwater.

The club meets at the VFW on South Main Street, just south of the St. Vrain River and on the east side of the road. Come around the back; the entrance is downstairs and there is lots of parking in back of the VFW Hall. Fly tying and social hour begins at 6:30; there is an open bar. There will be a short, informative club session at about 7PM and I'll start the program about 7:15 or so.

There's always a raffle full of goodies, so bring a few bucks to buy tickets.

I hope to see many of you next Thursday! This will be fun.

Saltwater Fly Fishing School

From March 17-24, 2006 I'm going to teach a Saltwater Fly Fishing School in Mexico. This is being set up through the fine folks who publish Wild On The Fly magazine. I'll have more details during the next week or so and would like you to attend! Interested? Please fill out the form below and send it back to me soon. Space will be limited and I'd sure like some of you to join the fun!

Thanks. I'll be in touch very soon.

Today is warm and bright in Longmont. The mountains continue to get lots of snow and the snow pack is excellent in the Central and Northern parts of the state. Rachel tells me that Durango has been getting more snow of late, which is good news for that area as well.

Frank fished on the St. Vrain the other day and said he hooked a few wild trout. I expect the Big Thompson to start breaking up in lower stretches with in the next week or two if temps remain on the warm side. We'll see, and I'll keep you informed.

Word is that the Frying Pan is fishing well - midge hatches in the middle of the day! I'd think most of the tailwater fisheries - the Pan, South Platte below Spinney, 11-Mile and Cheesman and in Waterton Canyon, the Blue below Dillon Reservoir, the Taylor below Taylor Reservoir and so on - would all be doing well as water temperatures will be quite stable and fish will be eating small bugs.

It would be a good time for a trip to the San Juan or Bighorn. I'll bet Gray Reef and the Mile are fishing well, too. You just have to be ready to fight the wind.

Thanks again for all of the kind notes and words of encouragement. Change is a good thing; it's one of the constants in life regardless of our attempts otherwise. We are prepared for the issues that face us and might just as well meet them with a good sense of humor and common sense.

The girls all wish you the best. I'll write again soon and be working on the web page to update and make changes. I'll announce several classes, trips and other exciting things!

If anyone needs any flies, please let me know. I'll be tying custom flies for a few folks who ask.

Please drop me a line at angler@peakpeak.com. I'm also keeping the shop phone number at 303-651-6061. Most of the time you'll be asked to leave a message. When you do, I'll call back.

Don't forget to buy a new fishing license! It's time.

Be sure to use your new license soon and often.

I'll talk with you again soon, and hope to see you this Saturday at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, and next Thursday at the VFW in Longmont!

Thanks for reading.
