South
Platte River
In Cheesman
canyon the fish are more active with the recent warmer temps. Hot afternoons
can be slow so stick to mornings and evenings. That still is no gimmie this
time of year. Fish very light tippets and be as stealthy as possible. Fish
are spread out and feeding-eggs, worms and streamers are taking some large
fish up from WIG-WAM. Hatches include: Beatis and midges, PMD's, Tricos
early in the morning (around 7) with spinners falling around 9.
Fish RS2,
beatis nymphs, Trico spinners and midge adult patterns in smaller sizes
18-24
In Eleven
mile canyon the powers at be have thankfully increased the flows, having
finished the work on the dam. The fish are still a little spooked but bug
activity is good. Prolific BWO hatches are in order and Trico hatches in
morning with spinner falls at night are common.
The Dream
Stream (Spinney Mountain Ranch) is flowing
low and clear and trout fishing is very good mornings and evenings, slow
during the heat of the day. Recommended dry flies include #22-26 Pale
Morning Duns, Tricos and Griffiths Gnats. The South Platte is flowing at
about 149 cfs above Eleven Mile.
