September 2005: The river is low and water levels
will continue to fall. Wily and wild brown trout are beginning to spawn in the
high country and will do so in lower
elevations
soon. There are fish to be caught, but you're going to have to use stealth. In
the short term continue using small attractor patterns with or without a
dropper, and beetles and ants. Small mayflies will begin to emerge on cloudy
days and should offer good surface fishing. Try the plunge pools with streamer
patterns and don't be too surprised to hook a very large brown! There are
still areas one may fish, but time is running short for that.
We pretty much let
the river rest during the winter and wait until Spring for good fishing once
again. If you have any reports to add, please do so! Thanks.
